Public media and private business files have different jobs.

The Media module catalogues images for the website-related workflow. It records file information and alternative text so the team can recognize and describe material. This is distinct from Drive's private file organization and expiring external shares. Choose the correct surface before uploading: a confidential proposal should not be treated as a website image simply because both are files.

Keep recognizable assets in the catalogue.

The library shows uploaded images with their filename, type, size and available dimensions. Those details help identify the intended asset before it is used in website content. Use meaningful file names and check that the selected image matches the actual communication purpose. The library is not a claim of specialist digital asset management, rights licensing or automatic brand approval.

Upload supported images within the actual limits.

Media accepts PNG, JPEG, WebP and AVIF up to 10 MiB. SVG is not included. Upload and registration verify the asset before it enters the catalogue; selecting a local file is not the same as completed registration. Appropriate storage and permissions must be available. Keep the original source and rights decisions in your established production process.

Write alternative text for the actual image.

Maintain the asset's alternative text to explain the relevant visual information. The supported field allows up to 300 characters. AI can propose a change, but it requires human confirmation and appropriate permissions. Review descriptions against the actual image and page context; adding text does not establish complete accessibility or guarantee search rankings.

An illustrative working example

Illustrative scenario: preparing a service image

A team selects an image for a service page. The editor checks the source rights, uploads a supported file and confirms the catalogue metadata. A colleague reviews the description against the actual scene and intended page. The pilot distinguishes public media from private client documents and verifies that an AI-suggested description does not invent people, places or claims not supported by the picture.

Questions about this topic

Is Media the same as Drive?

No. Media serves website images and their catalogue information. Drive handles private files, folder access and version-specific external sharing.

Which formats and size are supported?

PNG, JPEG, WebP and AVIF are accepted up to 10 MiB. SVG is excluded from this upload path.

Does alternative text guarantee accessibility or rankings?

No. It supports image description. The entire page experience and search performance require broader review without guaranteed outcomes.

Can AI change descriptions automatically?

The alt-text tool proposes a change for human confirmation. It also requires the user's relevant media permission.
