BOOKING RULES
Keep weekly opening hours and exceptional days in agreement.
Define the normal week, override a specific date and choose whether the business trades on the built-in Japanese public holidays.
Normal opening week
A regular week does not describe every business day
The business may usually open on Tuesday but close for maintenance next week. It may also deliberately open on a public holiday. Tsumira separates weekly availability from a date-specific exception, so an exceptional day can replace the normal rule. The holiday setting uses the built-in Japanese public-holiday calendar; it should not be assumed to provide automatic calendars for every country.
Define the normal week deliberately
Weekly rules identify which weekdays open and the applicable opening and closing minutes. A weekday omitted from the saved week is closed; saving replaces the week rather than secretly retaining an old day that is no longer shown. Lead hours and the future booking horizon are saved with the availability settings. Review the complete week when changing it, because this is the schedule offered to customers.

- Missing weekdays are closed
- Notice and horizon settings
Use an exception for a particular date
A date exception replaces the weekly windows entirely. A closed exception can shut a day that is normally open, while an explicit opening interval can open a day the normal week would close. The same exception can override the holiday exclusion, because it is a deliberate statement about that date. Keep the interval valid and clear; an incomplete or reversed opening range should not be treated as a useful booking promise.
- Whole-day closure exception
- Special opening interval
- Date rule replaces weekly rule
Date exception
The date exception replaces the normal weekday rule.
Apply the supported holiday model honestly
When trading on holidays is disabled, the built-in Japanese holiday calendar can close those dates unless an explicit date exception says otherwise. Weekend opening still comes from the weekly rules, so a deliberate Saturday opening is not automatically cancelled just because it is a weekend. An international business should configure its real closures and evaluate local holiday requirements separately instead of assuming Japanese holiday data describes its market.

- Weekend behavior from weekly rules
- Local closures require appropriate configuration
A concrete workflow
Review the regular week
Set the weekdays and intervals the business can reliably offer.
Set booking limits
Choose advance notice and how far ahead bookings may be taken.
Add exceptional dates
Close a maintenance day or explicitly open a special day with an appropriate interval.
Check the public result
Inspect offered times for ordinary days and the exceptional date before relying on the promise.
An illustrative working example
Illustrative workflow: a maintenance closure and a special opening
A service business normally opens Tuesday through Saturday. It closes one Tuesday for maintenance, so the authorized manager adds a closed exception. On another date, it deliberately opens despite a Japanese public holiday and records a special opening interval. The date-specific choices replace the normal rule for those days rather than requiring the entire weekly schedule to be rewritten.
Questions about this topic
Does a date exception add to or replace the week?
It replaces that date’s weekly windows. This supports both closing a normally open day and opening a normally closed one.
Are German public holidays automatically covered?
That is not established. The built-in public-holiday data described here is Japanese; local closure requirements need their own evaluation and configuration.
Does the system always close on weekends?
No. Weekly opening rules decide weekday behavior. A configured Saturday opening is not discarded simply because it is the weekend.
Can ordinary staff change the public opening rules?
Availability management has a separate permission from taking a booking. The public schedule is not changed merely by booking a customer in.
